Do you enjoy wine? Do you enjoy stand-up comedy? Did you know you can enjoy them together??? WHOA! Yes, that’s right kids. Winery 32 in beautiful downtown Lucketts, Virginia, has been hosting stand-up comedy nights for a couple years now, and I’m not embarrassed to admit that I’ve been at each and every one. And they are always an amazingly fun time!
This past Friday night, was no exception. Comedy starts at 8pm but our gang of 7 arrived around 6pm to have a drink to start the weekend and to take advantage of the bistro staying open late for dinner. We grabbed a table outside and got a few bottles of Chambourcin to kick off the night. That wine sure goes down good on a beautiful Friday evening on the deck watching the sunset. One of the owners, Michael, is a chef, and if the fantastic wine isn’t quite enough to draw you in, his food will surely seal the deal. The bistro menu is an impressive assortment of dishes, all priced at $8, and all equally delicious. This particular night our group had pulled pork sandwich, spinach ravioli, smoked chicken salad sandwich, and prosciutto & mozzarella quesadilla. As expected, all was delicious.
As usual, comedy night sold out (so if you want to go next time get your tickets early!!!), and it was an absolutely packed house. That kind of energy in the room always makes comedy better I think. The emcee and first comedian up was one of my absolute favorites Rahmein Mostafavi. I’ve seen him something like 10 times now and he’s always, always, always hilarious. He runs Cool Cow Comedy, a production company that sets up comedy shows, many featuring big name headliners, throughout the DC metro area. You won’t go wrong at one of Rahmeins shows. Next up was the very funny self described asian-polish comedian Wendy Wroblewski. She delivered her observational humor with a dry wit and had the whole place in stitches. Wendy plays shows all around the area, check out her website to keep an eye on her upcoming gigs.
The ‘headliner’ for the evening was the hilarious Jason Weems. A native of Baltimore, Jason has made a name throughout the area and is in the process of breaking onto the national stage. Given his performance Friday night I’d say that’s going to come sooner rather than later. He has a very engaging and conversational style of comedy, and does an impressive job of playing to the audience and keeping a gag running throughout the show. He had the whole room laughing hysterically from the minute he hit the stage. He’s a busy guy, with shows all over the place, so check out his website to see him live.
Another amazing evening with our good friends at Winery 32. Roxanne, Michael, and their team always do a great job of putting on a fun event. They’ve become one of our ‘go-to’ wineries when we just need to get out and feel at home. From the consistently great wines, to the wonderful food prepared by Michael, you simply can’t go wrong with a visit to Winery 32, whether for a comedy night or other event, or just for the hell of it.
Go visit, ask about their upcoming events and tell them their friends at the LoCo Wine Squad sent you!!!!!
